VocAlign comes in two different forms in Studio One:
- A realtime insert
- An ARA Event FX
When added to a normal track insert, the realtime version with a side-chain input for Guide audio will always be used.
Only the VST3 can be used as an Event FX — the Audio Unit on macOS will only ever be the realtime version.
To access the ARA Event FX, the Event FX version of the plugin needs to be added directly to an Audio Event.
There are a few different ways to do this:
1) With some combinations of VocAlign and Studio One, with the "Edit with VocAlign" audio menu item.
Newer versions of VocAlign won't have this option available in older versions of Studio One. The "edit with" items are added in Studio One software updates on a per-plugin basis.
This is accessed from the Audio menu:
Or from the right-click > audio menu when right-clicking an Audio Event:
2) By dragging and dropping on to an Audio Event from the FX Browser.
- In older versions of Studio One, Alt/Option needs to be held to toggle to dragging and dropping the Event FX.
- In newer versions of Studio One with the "event editors" folder, the default drag and drop will be for the Event FX.
Note the difference in the tool tips, and make sure your tooltip says "Event FX" before you drop the plugin onto the event.
If you tooltip says "Add FX on channel" instead, hold Alt/Option to toggle it.

3) From the Event FX insert list in the Inspector
In Studio One's Inspector (f4 shortcut) there is an Event section at the bottom which shows some information about the Audio Event that you have selected on the timeline.
There, you will find an Event FX section.
With no Event FX on the audio event, there will be a grey "enable" button next to the Event FX header.
Click this to reveal the event FX inserts:
Click the "+" icon to browse for plugins,
Then find and select the VocALign VST3 (not the AU)
Event FX can also be removed from the Inspector's Event FX insert lists.
All of these methods will result in the ARA version of VocAlign, with the Guide capture button and instant captures, docked in Studio One's Editor:
Because the ARA Event FX is in the Editor, your Audio Event needs to be selected to see the plugin interface.
The ARA Event FX needs to be added to every Audio Event you want to capture.
If you want to render out the results of an ARA Event FX into a new Audio Event, you can use the Render button found in the Inspector, where the grey "enable" button used to be:
In the case of VocAlign, this will replace your original Dub audio on the timeline with VocAlign's aligned Output audio.
